Looking for quick, on-the-go breakfasts that’ll keep you feeling full and energized all morning long? We’ve got the perfect option for you—smoothies! Honestly, smoothies are an incredible anytime drink, not in the least because they make it way easier to get in your fruits and veggies. Whether you like berry smoothies, chocolate protein shakes, or green-packed options, we've got something here you'll love. We hope these 40 recipes will help inspire you, but smoothies are really all about improvisation, so feel free to get creative.

At their very simplest, smoothies are pretty much just a combo of fruit (frozen is best), a thickener, a liquid, and some add-ins, all blended together (sometimes with ice). As long as you keep the proportions and basic ingredients the same (check out our easy guide for how to make a smoothie if you’re a true beginner), you can really go wild with your mix-ins.

You could go with traditional fruits like strawberries and raspberries, or choose tropical options like pineapple and mango. Bananas are often used to thicken smoothies, but if you’re not a fan, consider nut butters, yogurt, or coconut milk instead. As for the liquid, water could work, but milk (including plant-based options like oat or almond) and coconut water are better. Then the add-ins are where things really get fun. Try cocoa (or cacao) powder, hemp or chia seeds for a little crunch, greens like spinach or kale for color and nutrients, etc.

Want to go overboard with the add-ins and worry your smoothie can’t take it? Serve them in a bowl instead! That way you can keep your blended proportions the same, but add as many toppings as you want.

The moral of the story is to have fun with it–the best part about having a smoothie for breakfast is that every day is an opportunity to find new and exciting flavor combos. That, and they’re kind of like a healthy milkshake. 😉
